A Mothers Day message from our Xtreme ‘Mom’ Jo Mousselli

One of the great blessings of being a mother is to be able to pass down your wisdom and experience to your children in ways that will help them to grow into beautiful, wonderful adults. I know that my own words and actions have impacted the individual journeys of all my children, so it makes me very proud to see them develop into the productive, successful adults they are today.

Through my experiences in the beauty industry, and even as a pediatric ICU nurse, I’ve learned a thing or two about how beauty is perceived and what true beauty really means – and over the years, I’ve shared that beauty advice with my own daughters. With Mother’s Day approaching, I’d like to do the same with all of you and your daughters. I also encourage each of you to add your own beauty advice for the younger women in the comments below so that we can all learn from each other and impart our collective wisdom to the women of tomorrow.

Tell us a bit about yourself. Why did you get into Beauty?

Cliche, but I have always had a fascination with makeup ever since I was a child. I was always the girl who did everyone’s makeup pre party! Adulthood saw roles in Sales and Marketing, and doing makeup gigs after hours and on weekends. Always at my happiest with a lipstick in hand, went on to study makeup artistry, closed the door on an office job and have not looked back.

What do you love about your work/job?

Pretty simple – I love making woman of all ages feel beautiful!

What do your clients have to say about you?

My clients like my relaxed approach to makeup and beauty. As the majority of my work is bridal, it can be a stressful time in their life. I like to make it fun and easygoing, taking the seriousness out of first time makeup and lash clients. Beauty and makeup are fun and when it is it becomes easy. Making things easy for your client is the best thing you can do.

How did you find out about Xtreme Lashes®?
As I was on the hunt to expand my skills, I had often thought about lashes, after seeing some very poor work on clients who complained about eyes being tender, irritated and dry, I decided against it. That is until I had heard of Xtreme. Xtreme offers intensive training; support and the application and retail products are by far the best I have seen!

Why did you want to add this service to your business?

I started doing the lash extensions due to a demand from my brides. Loving the strip lashes used on the day, they had hinted that it would be great if there were something more permanent to last throughout the honeymoon. I also wanted brides to make that extra spend as they can be one off clients. The lashes also gave me the opportunity to package them in with the makeup, and potentially target the brides as regular clients with fills. This has become very successful.

How has offering eyelash extensions changed your business?

Xtreme Lashes has changed my business immensely, particularly financially. Makeup artistry can be very limiting, but the lash extensions have widened my scope creatively and financially. I was able to expand on my business and keep with the focus on my specialty, the face.

How many applications would you do per day/week?

I tend to average, 2-3 per day and overall 10-12 per week.

What is your favourite Xtreme Lashes® product?

I really like the under eye gel lint free gel pads. These are the best I have seen as far as application products go. They sit comfortably and have a nourishing effect on the eye area.

• If necessary, use a Lash Styling Wand or brow brush to distribute evenly.

Ever wonder what all the “eyelash extension” fuss is about? Do you wonder what is it about those little synthetic lash strands that has everyone in a lash craze? Maybe you’re thinking, “I’ve got a great mascara. It’s just as good.” Well, not quite. Eyelash extensions have a few lash legs up on their liquid eyelash enhancing counterparts. Here’s why:

5. Custom Looks: You can’t create a cat eyed look, vary the curl of different lashes to add lift or choose exactly how long you want your lashes to be with mascara. Your Lash Stylist can do all this and more with eyelash extensions!

4. No Panda Peepers: Eyelash extensions won’t run, bleed, drip, etc., etc. You will be safe to swim, shower, cry, perspire (or “glow” if you like) and not leave any telltale signs that your lashes have been “enhanced” from those that Mother Nature blessed you with. Who hasn’t had one of those unfortunate black-eyed mascara incidents?

It’s hard not to be ‘one eyed’ about your business but this time I really went to task on the concept! I decided to wear one eye WITH extensions and NO mascara and the other eye WITHOUT extensions and WITH mascara. Interestingly while our model (me!) did this experiment I asked “Which eye has make-up and which eye has not?” All could not believe that the eye with extensions had no make-up! All preferred the look of the eye with extensions and sans mascara!

What To Do If You Receive A Bad Eyelash Extension Application

Of course, we wish that everyone chose an Xtreme Lashes Stylist for their eyelash extensions but we always hate to hear of anyone receiving a bad eyelash extension application, no matter who they choose. The image above was shared with us by Xtreme Lashes Poland and is of a woman who came to see them after having a very poor quality lash application from an unqualified person, NOT an Xtreme Lashes Stylist.

We always stress that training is immensely important when choosing a stylist for your lashes and we strongly suggest that you always ask to see proof of training before allowing anyone to work on you. Not everyone receives this advice in time, though. If you have an unfortunate experience with eyelash extensions (or cluster lashes) applied by an unqualified person, here are a few things you should (and shouldn’t) do:

• First and foremost, do NOT attempt to remove the extensions yourself. Professional quality lash adhesives are strong-bonding (if that is even what was used) and designed to hold tight. Attempts to remove any extensions yourself will often result in the removal of many of your own lashes as well.

• Find a professionally trained certified lash stylist for removal. We don’t advise returning to a location that performed a poor quality application for removal. If care was not taken during an application, it is highly questionable that it would be taken during removal.

• Consult with the professional lash stylist about the condition of your lashes. If your natural lashes are damaged after the extension removal due to excessive adhesive use, you may need to apply a lash conditioner for several weeks in order to strengthen and fortify your weakened lashes.

• You can have new eyelash extensions applied correctly, but only when your professional lash stylist advises it is okay to do so. You may need to wait for a period of time if your lashes were damaged to allow them to strengthen and regrow.

Remember that properly applied eyelash extensions should never look like those pictured above. Eyelash extensions should never be painful and they should look like your own lashes, just longer and thicker. You should always be able to completely separate each of your extended lashes and not have large sections adhered together.
